Abstract
Forensic science covers everything from drug regulation to criminal investigation. The job of a forensic chemist is therefore ever-changing and requires flexible and accurate analytical methodology. In addition to targeted methods, modern forensic toxicology labs are often tasked with running comprehensive screening methods, frequently targeting more than 1000 compounds. Given its specificity and versatility, LC-MS/MS is an extremely valuable tool for forensic applications. This session is designed for forensic chemists who are currently using or are interested in bringing LC-MS/MS into their laboratory. We will discuss commonly utilized compound screening approaches, as well as novel techniques to ensure that laboratories can get the most out of their systems.

Learning Objectives
  • Evaluate the advantages LC-MS/MS could provide.
  • Explain the fundamentals of spectral library searching.
  • Discuss the differences between screening and targeted workflows.
