Cancer Immunotherapy

Every year there are an estimated 14.1 million new cases and 8.2 million cancer-related deaths worldwide. Cancer therapies include chemotherapy, radiation or surgery. These therapies are considered either too specific or nonspecific at all with many side effects. In a search for a more specific powerful treatment, scientists are using a new approach called immunotherapy which harnesses the many advantages of our immune system to find and destroy cancer. This application of the fundamental research of cancer immunology is growing subspecialty of oncology.
Recent developments in cancer immunotherapy research over past years led to breakthroughs in treatment options with positive outcomes for cancer patients.
