All you need to know about Orphan Drugs

Orphan drugs are medicinal products intended for the diagnosis, prevention, or treatment of very rare life-threatening diseases. To offset the high development cost of orphan drugs, in 1983, the FDA passed the Orphan Drug Act (ODA), which provides financial incentives for the development of rare disease drugs. Since then, the ODA is considered to be very successful. The number of d approved orphan drugs has risen dramatically with hundreds more in clinical trials.
