    BIOGRAPHY

Abstract

Date:  January 21, 2021

Time: 10:00am PST

Procalcitonin (PCT) is an invaluable marker to help assess the presence or absence of bacterial infection and can be used as an aid in antibiotic therapy for patients with suspected or confirmed lower respiratory tract infection (LRTI). This presentation reviews the utility of PCT in the emergency department and describes its role in helping identify patients with bacterial infections at risk for developing sepsis and aiding in management of their therapy. Join Dr. Larissa May, MD, MSPH, MSHS as she discusses the regulation and kinetics of PCT during infection and the evidence of PCT as a valuable tool in aiding antibiotic stewardship.

Learning Objectives

  • Discuss Procalcitonin as a biomarker to help distinguish viral versus bacterial infection
  • Review the literature supporting PCT's role in antimicrobial stewardship management and patient outcomes in various clinical settings
  • Discuss opportunities and challenges of implementing PCT in emergency care settings

Webinars will be available for unlimited on-demand viewing after live event.
