    Biography
I am a licensed Clinical Laboratory Scientist in the state of California having retired from the University of California, Davis Health System (UCDHS) in 2017 after 30 years of service, with the last 23 years as the Sr Specialist in Special Coagulation section of the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine department. I currently serve as a staff volunteer with the Hemostasis & Thrombosis Center at UCDHS and the Thrombosis Subcommittee for UCDHS, a working group of the institution's Pharmacy and Therapeutics committee. I serve on the board and several committees for the International Council for Standardisation in Hematology (ICSH) and a former board member for the North American Specialized Coagulation Laboratory Association (NASCOLA) and the International Society for Laboratory Hematology (ISLH). I also serve as an associate editor for the Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis, former associate editor for the International Journal for Laboratory Hematology (IJLH), and currently serve as editorial board member for Seminars in Thrombosis and Hemostasis and the IJLH. I have authored or co-authored 99 articles, and 5 book chapters, with the most recent manuscripts focusing on laboratory testing of direct oral anticoagulants and laboratory quality issues.

    Abstract:

The International Council for Standardization in Haematology (ICSH) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing open-access guidance documents to enhance the quality of laboratory testing and practice.  A recently published ICSH initiative was to provide laboratory guidance for 1) identifying all coagulation tests that have potential patient risk based on test, test result, and patient presentations, 2) recommending critical result thresholds; 3) providing acceptable reporting and documenting mechanisms, and 4) delineating the required elements for  laboratory policies.  This presentation will describe the rationale for critical values/tests recommendations by renown opinion leaders in the field of laboratory coagulation.

At the conclusion of this webinar attendees will be able to:
    1) understand and define the difference between a critical value and a critical test,
    2) describe the recommended coagulation tests with associated with critical values,
    3) identify the recommended elements for reporting and documenting critical values, and
    4) apply the recommended requirements for a critical value/test laboratory policy
