Despite available vaccines and treatments, COVID-19 continues to impose a major burden in the world, as a leading cause of hospitalizations and deaths. We and others have been working in te identification of novel SARS-CoV-2 inhibitors and vaccines that might have improved efficacy or that can be deployed quickly than those available at this moment. I will present our preclinical studies on two promising countermeasures against COVID-19, one based on the use of inhibitors of translation as antivirals, the second based on the use of a negative strand RNA virus vector as vaccine.
Learning Objectives:
1. Strategies to repurpose drugs for the treatment of COVID-19
2. Research strategies to conduct preclinical studies on COVID-19 antivirals and vaccines
3. Use of Newcastle disease virus as a vaccine vector
