Abstract

Unfortunately due to technical issues this webinar has been delayed until June 22nd. If you are unable to make the new time, it will be available on demand for you to view.

DATE: June 22, 2017
TIME: 10:30am PT, 1:30pm ET

Sepsis is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in hospitalized patients. Diagnosis of sepsis is challenging and early recognition is a key component in improving outcomes. Blood culture remains the gold standard for diagnosis of sepsis but identification of bacterial or fungal pathogens using conventional methods is often delayed resulting in institution of empiric antimicrobial therapy. Clinical microbiology laboratories now have a few options for rapid identification of pathogens from positive blood cultures. These methods differ in their complexity, turn-around time to results, number of pathogens identified and costs.  This webinar will review current options for rapid pathogen identification from positive blood cultures and discuss the presenter’s experience with the use of AdvanDx QuickFISH BC kits and their impact on the laboratory workflow and patient outcomes.

Learning Objectives:

  • Discuss sepsis and the laboratory methods available for rapid diagnosis.
  • Describe the benefits of rapid blood cultures diagnostics on laboratory workflow and clinical outcomes.
