    Biography

      Weilin Liu obtained his PhD degree in molecular medical sciences from the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG), the Netherlands. His PhD work focus on dissecting molecular mechanisms of metabolism and metabolic diseases, including obesity and Type 2 diabetes. Weilin has solid hands-on experience on protein production and purification using different expression hosts and methods, such as His-tag gravity column and IgA/IgG magnetic beads. He joined GenScript European Division in November 2019 as a technical account manager. Weilin has extensive expertise and hands on experience working with proteins and antibodies, which enables him to better understand the procedures and actions, and is able to provide guidance to other researchers leading them the best way to achieve their goals. His passion and strong belief in having a close collaboration between industry and academy serves an indispensable node to transform lab results into novel products and therapies.

    High throughput purification is a critical step for antibody engineering and screening. Protein purification using traditional resin columns is limited by throughput and a complicated sample preparation process, which makes it challenging to extend to high throughput antibody purification. Magnetic beads-based purification systems are simpler to operate as they eliminate the need to remove cells by centrifugation and sample filtration, and are easily applied to high throughput purification while providing significant savings in time and labor. Here we present novel solutions, such as the AmMag (TM) SA semi-automatic purification device and AmMag (TM) Ni beads protein A purification beads that enable high-throughput antibody purification using magnetic beads. The tools and techniques described here, are expected to significantly speed up antibody purification and screening while increasing cost-effectiveness.
