Over four billion prescriptions are issued each year in the US, many of which will cause adverse drug reactions and/or poor efficacy leading to therapeutic failure. This disparity contributes to poor outcomes and higher costs for individuals and health-care organizations. Pharmacogenomics (PGx) is a cornerstone of precision medicine that is poised to help address this problem. Routine PGx testing reduces the frequency of adverse reactions, increases first-time therapeutic efficacy, and reduces long-term costs. These realities showcase the importance of clinical adoption of preemptive PGx testing for all patients. In this session Dr. Solomon Adams will walk attendees through the PGx program at Ariel Precision Medicine and plans for empowering patients to use PGx data with multiple providers. He also will review and basics of developing a PGx program and provide insight into the future of testing.

Learning Objectives
  • Describe the components of a successful pharmacogenomics program
  • List benefits of pharmacogenomics implementation to the broader healthcare ecosystem
  • Discuss how organizations like Ariel Precision Medicine are paving the way to widespread clinical adoption of pharmacogenomics
