Abstract

Drawing from the latest research and intervention practices, this presentation will address overcoming burn-out, compassion fatigue and vicarious trauma generally, and specifically as related to the COVID-19 era.   The curriculum will present research regarding compassion fatigue and concepts from the new wave of positive psychology.  The talk will also present a reframe of compassion fatigue utilizing concepts from Community Resiliency Model (CRM), a new conceptualization of Post-Traumatic Growth and Mature Gratitude.  The instructional format will utilize videos and anecdotal examples from the work of Safe Harbor- Trauma Recovery Center.  

Learning Objectives:

1. Define burnout, compassion fatigue and secondary trauma and explore signs and symptoms in relation to health providers’ response to the COVID-19 pandemic


2. Explain stress responses and brain neuroplasticity and “rewiring”, and present newly emerging concepts from positive psychology


3. Define resilience and present practices for enhancing resilience and post-traumatic growth
