Quantitative Label-Free Imaging and It's Many Applications

Speakers

Abstract

Quantitative Phase Imaging (QPI) is a rapidly developing area that permits label-free live cell imaging. York has been at the forefront of developing applications through the use of ptychography, a unique form of QPI. This has focussed on longitudinal studies of cell behaviour and looking at the QPI metrics that can be used to identify unique phenotypes and characteristics of single cells and populations. We will look at how we study cells at high confluency levels and look at the unique measurements1 that can be made along, as well as the addition information that can be gained through studying changes in cell motility within mixed cultures2.  We will also look at a variety of new applications still under study here at York along with external collaborators around the world.

Learning Objectives:

1. An understanding of label free microscopy, quantitative phase  imaging and ptychography.
2. The many potential applications for time lapse studies using QPI.
3. How label free imaging fits into a multi core lab.
