Abstract
Prenatal infections can increase the risk of serious health complications including miscarriage, organ damage, birth defect, or even death. Prevention of prenatal infection begins with taking precautions to avoid maternal infections.

Serology testing is a valuable tool in preventing prenatal infections by identifying maternal immune status. Testing for immune status prior to pregnancy allows clinicians to determine if vaccinations are needed for measles, mumps, and varicella. For infections without vaccines, serology testing is valuable for several purposes. For one, seronegative results suggest behavior modifications to minimize the risk of infection. Additionally, serology results can be used as part of a diagnostic workup for pregnant women suspected of infection.

This webinar will provide an understanding of prenatal infections and will discuss the role of serology testing in preventing congenital infections.

Learning Objectives
  • Summarize key congenital infections.
  • Discuss the value of prenatal serology testing for TORCH , measles, and VZV.
  • Identify clinical laboratory challenges with using serological testing to determine prenatal infections.

Webinars will be available for unlimited on-demand viewing after live event.
