    Biography
      James joined Leica Microsystems as an advanced workflow specialist covering Leica's widefield product line in 2019. During his time at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), James leveraged advanced microscopy to develop and employ robust applications including: automated particle identification and extraction, widefield lifetime measurements, and super-resolution single-molecule imaging.

        Vikram Kohli, Ph.D., is trained as a physicist and engineer with a specialty in semiconductor physics, laser & electro-optics, and mathematics. His postdoctoral work focused on vascular development, neuronal biology, and the genomics and etiology of autoimmune diseases.

      In widefield fluorescence microscopy both the contrast and resolution of a captured image is corrupted by light collected from adjacent planes, scattered light, camera sensor noise and the system’s point spread function. These contributions result in increased image haze/blur, obscuring the image details. Leica Microsystems THUNDER technology addresses these pitfalls through computational clearing and adaptive deconvolution. Together these methods improve image contrast and resolution beyond that of a typical high-end widefield fluorescence microscope.
