The Truth about High Fructose Corn Syrup...

WRITTEN BY: Jennifer Ellis

Everyone knows about high fructose corn syrup. Why? Because it is in everything. Check food labels for HFCS in cereal, crackers, frozen foods, breads, salad dressing, yogurt, soda, juice, candy…the list goes on and on. So, what’s the big deal? A little extra sugar couldn’t hurt.

Unfortunately, this is not true on many levels. First of all, HFCS is not just a little extra sugar, it is a lot. By being added to most processed foods, sugar intakes are skyrocketing. This has multiple health effects including increased rates of obesity, diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and cancer just to name a few. In addition, the chemical process of making HFCS allows lone fructose to mainline directly to your liver, causing increased fat production.

Since HFCS is chemically different from table sugar, it is important for us to learn the differences and adjust our diets accordingly. Sure, sugar seems like a harmless additive, but not in the quantities currently consumed by most. Take a look at the truth about high fructose corn syrup and become more aware of what you are putting into your body.
